Welcome to the wonderful where of vintage CorningWare. This is one of two auctions we have for CorningWare casseroles dishes. The other pattern auction separately is for a casserole dish complete with lid with the wildflower pattern that was made from 1977 to 1984. Please take a look. This auction is for one casserole dish bottom with the spice of life pattern with the French wording that was produced from 1972 to 1987. The French words mean parsley and sage. CorningWare was discovered in 1953 by Donald Stuckey by accident. He was testing photosensitive glass and he thought the temperature of his factory oven was 840° Fahrenheit. When he went to take out the test piece from the oven with the tongs he found out the oven was actually 900 degrees Fahrenheit and when he tried to remove the test sample it fell on the ground but did not break. When he went to pick up the photosensitive glass sample it had turned a milky white and when it accidentally fell from the tongs he was using to pick it up, the glass did not break. CorningWare was produced in 1958 for the cookware line. Originally during world war II the pyro serum glass which is what CorningWare was called, was made for ballistic missiles to protect the heat resistant nose cones on missiles. CorningWare is resistant to stains and odors and can go from freezer to oven to table top. The spice of life pattern was the second in popularity in terms of CorningWare history. From the photos notice that you have images of different vegetables with beautiful green leaves and the colors are brown Orange green it include vegetables like tomatoes mushrooms and onion and the words in French which means parsley and sage. The casserole dish bottom is clean with no obvious marks. The top from the other auction casserole dish we have listed four auctions separately will fit this dish as well. Measuring from handle to handle the casserole dish is 8 1/2 in wide but the casserole dish itself is approximately 7 in wide and it is a square. On the lip of the casserole bottom is the trademark for CorningWare which reads as follows. CorningWare A-1 -1/2-5, 1-1/2 quart, range, oven, microwave, Corning New York USA 377 MA. There are several photos of the trademark listed above which you can see if you look closely. The trademark is extremely hard to read but it is there and proves this is authentic corningware. Pictures are part of the description so please review them carefully. We encourage potential buyers to ask questions. There are no returns or refunds from any of our auction sales.
