PYREX has been produced in 3 Major Categories: CLEAR (1915 -); Flameware (1936-79); Coloured (Clear and Milk Glass) (1947-) … For most collectors & enthusiasts - THIS is where the story of PYREX began - with their HIGH QUALITY; THICK Walled & HEAVY; STRAW-YELLOW; ICONIC "Crystal"-Clear Product Line - the "GO-TO" bake-ware items, even still. Offered here is a – Retro PYREX - HARD-TO-FIND, Crystal-Clear, Straw-Colour, Round, Vertical-Rib, Large-Size Souffle-Dish in MOST-EXCELLENT - barely-used condition. This item was available in the mid-late 1970’s – as shown in the 1977 PYREX catalogue guide. All glass surfaces are HIGHLY-Glossy, shiny and clean - exterior & interior. There are NO obvious cracks, chips, nor flea-bites; NO staining, rubs, hazing nor significant scratches. Just some fine or light scratches, rubs or incidental contact marks. This Souffle Dish is elegantly designed - COMPLETELY-DIFFERENT than all other PYREX Forms. This Dish is proportionally deeper than more commonly seen dishes and is fairly straight, near vertically sided. The exterior, Vertical Angled Turbine-Like Ribbing is unique to PYREX's Soufflé-Dishes – giving the effect of optic glass – but also requires diligent cleaning after use. This Souffle Dish measures - approx 8 3/8” in diameter across the top edge; 6 1/8" across the base seat-rim; 3 5/8-3/4" in height. The capacity of this Dish ~ 2.5 Quarts. Crisply & clearly embossed on the base is - "TRADE MARK; MADE IN U.S.A; 2; "circled R"; PYREX" . No Product number NOR Capacity Embossed. MPN - in the 1977 PYREX catalogue was 220. SOME INTERESTING INFORMATION – PYREX Soufflé Dishes - PYREX Soufflé Dishes were a unique product offered alone and in sets of three, nesting dishes. These Souffle dish sets were offered in - Crystal-Clear Glass, All-White Milk-Glass, and White Milk-Glass with fired-on Colour top-coat (sm red/ med orange/ lg yellow) - produced in the mid to later 1970’s (in the 1977 PYREX catalogue). Pyrex released a nesting set of three crystal-clear glass souffle dishes – Small - MPN 216 - 1 1/2 PT; 5 7/8” top edge diameter, 2 ¼” height, 4” diameter base seat rim Medium – MPN 217 - 1 1/2 QT; 7-7.5” top edge diameter, 3” height Large – MPN 220 - 2 1/2 QT; 8.25-8.5” top edge diameter, 3 5/8-4” height The exterior, Vertical Angled Turbine-Like Ribbing is unique to ALL PYREX's Souffle-Dishes. All hard-surface items are – well-washed in hot soapy water, rinsed, air-dried, photographed, wrapped in clean paper towel, packed, and placed into clean storage boxes until purchased. Processing Blankets, Once in Hand - All Blankets are washed in Wool-Safe Laundry Detergent; dried on warm heat, until dry; photographed from both sides; folded and bagged loosely, then placed into a storage cupboard having cedar shingles throughout the cupboard until sold. There are videos and web-sites on line which explain how wool items can be re-stretched to their proper shape or size (or closer to) – as shrinkage happens when washed and dried.
